Introduction
In 1995, Jedit was developed to add an editor function to our telecom software product "Jterm." The beta version, 1.x, was provided as freeware to Japanese Macintosh users through online and won several prizes*1.
In November 1997, we released Jedit version 2.0. This version offered easy operation, macro functions, AppleScript, and compatibility with MacOS 8. Jedit 2.0 was shipped as shareware and become the popular application for tens of thousands of Japanese Macintosh users.
Our newest application, Jedit3.0, is a highly useful tool for the new multimedia age. While maintaining its simplicity, version 3.0 is a completely new editor that offers faster operation, along with an entire set of powerfull features, as follows:
(1) Compatibility with multifont, multistyle and multicolor.
Jedit can also open and edit the SimpleText read only files.
(2) AppleScriptable and supports deep macro menu and macro window.
(3) Ability to import sounds, images, QuickTime files, QuickDraw 3D
Files, and file aliases.
(4) Offers an easier, more powerful search function.
Multi-file search, multi-file replacement, mark list functions, regular expressions,
History menus of search/replace strings and so on.
(5) Supports Sherlock FBC search. Jedit3.0's Sherlock is slightly
different from Finder and more powerful. You may open the file and
jump to the chosen search word directly.
(6) You may save the results of multifile searches or markers as book
mark files. Bookmark files are very useful as the contents index of
various text files.
(7) Jedit3.0 supports useful web page functions like HTML coloring, and
insertion of path names by drag & drop.
(8) Compatible with Language Analysis Manager*2
and supports speech function of English and Japanese documents.
(9) Supports multiple Undo/Redo.
(10) Fully compatible with Navigation Service*2.

*2 To use Sherlock and Language Analysis Manager, you need MacOS 8.5 or higher. For Navigation Service, you need MacOS 8.0 or higher.

(3) We are not responsible for any damage or loss that results from using Jedit3.0. After your registration, the license for using Jedit3.0 can not be sold, rented, or given out to others.
(4) Jedit3.0 is provided through BBSs, the Internet, and other media for non-profit use only. Redistributing altered folders of Jedit 3.0 is prohibited. In order to redistribute Jedit3.0 in CD-ROMs or any other media, you must first have written permission from Matsumoto & Co., Ltd.

System Requirement
(1)System: MacOS 7.1 or higher for Jedit3.0
Jedit3.0 is compatible with MacOS 8, 8.1, 8.5 and 8.6.
The program does not work on Systems 6.07 or earlier.
(2)4MB of RAM is required for Jedit3.0 (System memory is not included)
(3)Jedit3.0 has versions for Power Macintoshes and Older Macintoshes with 68K CPU(68020, 68030, and 68040).
(4)The version for Old Macintoshes (68K) does not support Unicode Convert, QuickDraw3D, and Japanese speech capabilities.
Jedit3.0 Features
· Opens and Edits more than two files at once, and works with more than 32KB of files
· Views a single document using more than two split views.
· Displays line numbers, paragraph numbers and rulers.
· Supports multiple Undo/Redo for all operations.
· Supports Unicode and UTF8 text files.
· Compatibility with multi fonts, multi styles, and multi color.
· Inserts images, sounds, QuickTime, QuickDraw3D, and aliases into documents.
· Opens, edits and saves SimpleText Read Only files.
· Supports auto coloring for HTML tags, and drag & drop functions for URL path names.
· Supports regular expressions (compatible to 2-byte characters) for search functions.
· Supports multiple file search (which is commonly called 'Grep').
· Compatibility with Sherlock. Jedit3.0 can open a file and immediately jump to the chosen search word.
· Bookmarks any area you select. The bookmarks are available in an index file.
· Supports 3 types of line breaks for each OS (MAC, UNIX and DOS). Also supports and automatically identifies 8 types of encodings, such as MacJapanese (shift-JIS), JIS, EUC and Unicode.
· Supports AppleScript. Most operations for editing text can be controlled by AppleScript.
· Supports deep macro menus and macro windows. AppleScript can be registered as a macro command.
· Supports "Internet Config." If you want to open an URL in the document window, click the URL with the command key down. In addition, you can paste your signature as set in Internet Config.
· Supports Word Service. You can start your preferred spell checker, grammar checker and dictionary application from the menu bar on Jedit3.0.
· Compatibility with contextual menus. You can register any AppleScript in the contextual menu of Jedit3.0.
· Supports Language Analysis Manager. Allows you to convert kanji text to hiragana and speaks the Japanese text.
· Makes summaries.
· Records sounds.
· Supports 2 types of regulations, normal wordwrap and Japanese hanging wordwrap.
· Contains functions for writing e-mail messages, such as adding/deleting quote prefixes, etc.
· Sets details for conversion between Japanese 1-byte and 2-byte characters for alphabets, numbers, special characters, etc.
· Allows recent documents to be opened from the "File" menu.
